Celtic pip Rangers in Scottish Premiership clash

Dramatic late goal secures victory for the visitors

By John Reid

Celtic emerged victorious in a thrilling Scottish Premiership clash against Rangers on Sunday, securing a 1-0 victory thanks to a dramatic late goal from substitute Giorgos Giakoumakis.

The match was evenly contested throughout, with both sides creating chances but failing to find the breakthrough. However, in the 89th minute, Celtic broke the deadlock when Giakoumakis pounced on a loose ball in the Rangers penalty area and fired home.

The goal sparked wild celebrations from the Celtic players and fans, while Rangers were left to rue their missed opportunities. The win sees Celtic move to the top of the Scottish Premiership table, two points ahead of Rangers.

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou praised his team's resilience and determination after the match.

"I'm so proud of the players," Postecoglou said. "They showed great character and never gave up. We knew it would be a tough game, but we stuck to our game plan and got the win."

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst was disappointed with the result, but admitted that Celtic deserved the victory.

"Celtic were the better team today," van Bronckhorst said. "We had our chances, but we didn't take them. Celtic were more clinical and they got the win."

The match was a fitting end to a thrilling weekend of Scottish football action. Celtic's victory over Rangers will give them a huge boost in their quest for a tenth consecutive Scottish Premiership title, while Rangers will be determined to bounce back and close the gap at the top of the table.
